Each screw-cap tube is pre-filled with DESS preservative (dimethyl-sulfoxide · EDTA · saturated NaCl), a gold-standard buffer that stops nuclease activity and microbial growth—so samples stay stable without cold-chain shipping and arrive ready for 16S, shotgun metagenomics, or qPCR analysis.

How to Sample Correctly
- Set the catcher. Position the disposable stool catcher across the toilet bowl (or beneath the animal).
- Collect. After passage, use the flocked swab to sample from at least three regions of the stool to capture community heterogeneity.
- Preserve. Insert the swab into the vial, swirl to release the sample into the preservative, then snap off the swab tip and cap tightly.
- Invert ×3. Ensure complete contact between sample and preservative.
- Pack & ship. Seal the vial in the original bag, place in the return box, and seal in the included poly mailer. Affix the included label, and drop at any USPS location—no refrigeration required.
After We Receive Your Sample
- DNA extraction begins immediately—already included in the kit price.
- We archive both the original tube and purified DNA for ≥ 3 months (longer upon request, space permitting).
- Order any combination of analyses—16S, shotgun metagenomics, targeted qPCR—during the holding period; each assay is billed separately so you can mix-and-match.
